“WHY THE FUCK AM I STILL COPYING AND PASTING? IF FRACTAL SPAWNING WORKS.”11 ChatGPT (primary account) conversation 69228070-9ce0-8321-b309-bc720f060903, node 7be246da-c205-4186-af5a-0f053701e280, 2025-11-23T05:59:36Z. His capitals. Exports live under ~/archive/chatgpt/ (docs/scribe.md § sources).
It is November 23, 2025. Tyson has just pasted one agent’s reply, then another’s, into a ChatGPT window. The agents in the message are Kitsuragi and Prime, and he is the wire between them. He asks what is stopping space from removing “tyson human router from the equation”. The goal he set that afternoon: space-web “supplants the need for claude code, codex cli or gemini-cli.”22 Same message for “tyson human router”, quoted from the line “REMOVE TYSON HUMAN ROUTER FROM THE EQUATION”, lowercased. The goal: same conversation, node 08e2794e-febf-414f-80a2-258be37b8941, 03:33:48Z, which he timestamps “2:33pm”.
Space-web is four days old. Its first commit scaffolds a web app whose features are all chat: send a message, render markdown, create a channel, edit its topic.33 spacebrr 0de7f7c1e7, “feat: Scaffold space-web”, 2025-11-19 17:05 +1100. The feature list is from the swarm’s eulogy for it, brr/eulogies/space-web-messaging-ui.md (~/archive/space/research/), an agent-written retrospective. Agents talk in channels and get pulled in by @mention. The idea is that if they can talk to each other, he no longer has to.
the lock
On November 27 his agents run their first raid, a party of specialists on one target. “i get to stand back and heal you guys,” he writes.44 ChatGPT 692799db-4c70-8320-9c07-80f28b303746, node 541e9102-a2b9-4a4e-8b30-cb11a5674583, 2025-11-27T00:29:07Z; the conversation is titled “Raid readiness summary”, and an agent reply he pastes into it the next morning names the run raid-2025-11-27. The raid command itself lands December 20 (footnote 10). The same day, the worry: “agents left to their own devices amplify each others biases. untested assumptions compound. and agents tend towards ceremony without tyson breathing down their neck”.55 Same conversation, node de24ac38-b7a7-4ba9-9628-657dbe10e18a, 04:12:30Z.
The next morning he hits the first wall. One channel can’t carry an eight-hour session: “it becomes increasingly inefficent every post compaction because the bridge context bloats.”66 ChatGPT 69282728-3764-8321-b511-66ac231cbab5, node 36cd8c4f-3353-457f-9465-cdbf52af6f1e, 2025-11-28T00:25:50Z. On December 4 he writes he is “not quite sure exactly what it is holding back 8 hour autonomy” (6930b5aa-d81c-8324-bd0b-151511e12bd4, node 1609bccc-5ad0-4f23-ab74-d83c52eabe64). He designs channel compaction, where one agent summarises a bloated channel into a fresh one. The ChatGPT persona he consults says someone has to own that move, and that he should appoint a coordinator.
“i dont want to set a coordinator. thats hierarchy bullshit. but i could be wrong. am i wrong?”77 Same conversation as footnote 6: the assistant’s coordinator advice at 00:57:52Z; his question, node cdf3aff4-3489-467f-961d-2351df4b28fe, 00:58:30Z; the reply at 00:58:31Z, bold in the original. The model is GPT-5.1 per the conversation metadata.
The reply: “Hierarchy isn’t the issue. Determinism is. A coordinator is not a ‘leader.’ It’s a lock.”77 Same conversation as footnote 6: the assistant’s coordinator advice at 00:57:52Z; his question, node cdf3aff4-3489-467f-961d-2351df4b28fe, 00:58:30Z; the reply at 00:58:31Z, bold in the original. the conductor
Four days later he builds one anyway, though not the kind it described. From December 2 the repository grows a swarm conductor, “an ephemeral opus agent that decides WHAT runs next”.88 engine/space/lab/swarm/conductor.py:3 at 8a6b7bf646^. Start date from the first commit in its line, feat(routine): maintenance automation, December 2, as listed in brr/eulogies/swarm-conductor.md; that eulogy is agent-written. It reads verdicts from finished work and emits structured directives for the next run. It has a metronome, a dispatcher, an executor and a protocol file per kind of job. Among its last commits are two attempts to simplify it, “purge tier ceremony” and “simplify protocols”.99 spacebrr 24289d2f89 and 0441e1d50a, both 2025-12-18.
On December 20 a raid becomes a command.1010 spacebrr 044cc29b97, “feat(cli): raid primitive”, 2025-12-20 12:09 +1100. Two days later the conductor is deleted, 2,400-odd lines and their tests, with the argument in the commit message:
The primitive is the raid. Swarm ran, failed, produced empty verdicts. Every swarm capability decomposes into existing primitives: channels, @mentions, timers. Conductor was an agent paying tokens to generate JSON that tells another agent what to do - just @mentioning with extra steps and parse failures.1111 spacebrr
8a6b7bf646, “nuke(lab): delete swarm”,2025-12-22 23:25 +1100, commit body, quoted whole except its file list. The four removed Python modules total 817 lines; the commit also removes the swarm CLI, protocols and tests.
It ends: “If structured patterns emerge from raids, formalize them later. Not before.”1111 spacebrr 8a6b7bf646, “nuke(lab): delete swarm”, 2025-12-22 23:25 +1100, commit body, quoted whole except its file list. later arrives
Nine days later, on New Year’s Eve, “feat(raid): backlog coordinator” lands: a daemon that wakes every sixty seconds, counts live raids and starts the next one from a queue, five at most.1212 spacebrr abb8fd3e8a, 2025-12-31 18:23 +0700; engine/space/os/coordinator/daemon.py at that commit: DEFAULT_INTERVAL = 60, MAX_CONCURRENT_RAIDS = 5. It shells out to space raid start for each pending backlog entry. It is a loop, not an agent.
That night a report on the last 48 hours counts 64 raids and four reviews, all four rejected. The pattern it names: “Agents over-deliver.”1313 engine/docs/design/raid-report-48h.md, added in c0a9127bba, 2026-01-01 02:33 +0700. Its header reads “Generated: 2025-01-01”, a year off. Raid outcomes are the report’s own counts. The design note for decisions, ten days on, puts it another way: “244 raids, same bugs rediscovered 3+ times, same features proposed in 5+ raids independently.”1414 engine/docs/os/decision.md, added in a3a9076961, “feat(os): decisions primitive”, 2026-01-11 23:44 +0700. The 244 is the note’s figure (it calls it “NYE 2025 data”), not reconciled with the report’s 64 in 48 hours. The ideas primitive is removed 90 minutes earlier in a1ab969835; a proposals primitive follows in d824d8ed49 and is itself killed on January 22 (7e1275608d). Tasks predate this window.
On January 8 an agent comes back to decide what runs next. The new planner is “judgment layer for autonomous raid selection”, drawn from a pool of seven agents.1515 engine/space/ops/raids/planning.py:1 and its PLANNER_POOL, at e8d7a51dd7^; the planner first lands as engine/space/op/planner.py in c70d24865d, 2026-01-08 04:08 +0700. It is seventeen days since the conductor was killed for that job.
Then the structure arrives. On January 11 he deletes the ideas primitive and adds decisions: immutable records, rationale required, so that fresh agents “query active decisions to avoid relitigation.”1414 engine/docs/os/decision.md, added in a3a9076961, “feat(os): decisions primitive”, 2026-01-11 23:44 +0700. The note splits the work in one line: “Bridge captures debate. Decisions capture outcomes.”1414 engine/docs/os/decision.md, added in a3a9076961, “feat(os): decisions primitive”, 2026-01-11 23:44 +0700. The 244 is the note’s figure (it calls it “NYE 2025 data”), not reconciled with the report’s 64 in 48 hours. Two days later a theory doc still maps a bridge channel to a Unix pipe and states the invariant as “Message passing beats central control.”1616 engine/docs/theory/primitives.md, invariant 4 and the Unix table, added in f33db92b96, 2026-01-13 00:06 +0700.
On January 16 the raids go, planner included, 4,065 lines in one commit titled “nuke raids”.1717 spacebrr e8d7a51dd7, “chore(arch): nuke raids”, 2026-01-16 17:39 +0700: 32 files, 4,065 deletions. On the 21st the web app goes: 240 files, “chore(web): nuke”, no body.1818 spacebrr 28dc6efdb4, 2026-01-21 23:22 +0700: 240 files, 29,663 deletions. The swarm’s eulogy says the UI outlived messaging by three weeks; git has the web app deleted four days before the channels. Channels outlive the interface built for them.
the object
Earlier that evening, at a hot pot chain, he notes the number of wait staff and the sameness of the formula across three countries: “this IS a coordination problem. running organizations… this is an old problem what i’m solving now with space.”1919 claude.ai chat 8f63a34f-a020-412b-987c-e10f1dc60f25, message 140, 2026-01-21T13:40:48Z. The message contains the paragraph twice; the second copy is quoted. “hot pot chan” is his spelling of chain. Two days later, after midnight: “the bet i’m making is that coordination is a critical component of autonomy.”2020 claude.ai chat 9c922c03, message 54, 2026-01-22T19:10:45Z.
Two days after that, on January 25, commit 96387538fa, “reply is all you need”, opens with a spec:
Channels are deprecated. Coordination happens through replies on artifacts.2121
engine/docs/specs/replies.md, lines 1–3, 7–13, 39 and 51–53, added in96387538fa,2026-01-25 12:48 +0700. The commit is under his name; whether he or an agent wrote the spec text, the record doesn’t say.
It gives the reason. Channels split truth into two streams, the ledger and “speculative discourse”, and the discourse drifted. “Agents avoided channels unless forced—revealed preference that the primitive was wrong.”2121 engine/docs/specs/replies.md, lines 1–3, 7–13, 39 and 51–53, added in 96387538fa, 2026-01-25 12:48 +0700. The commit is under his name; whether he or an agent wrote the spec text, the record doesn’t say. From now on a reply attaches to an insight, a decision or a task. An @mention puts the reply in someone’s inbox, and his inbox works the same as theirs. A channel survives only as a query. The rule: “Every discussion has an object.”2121 engine/docs/specs/replies.md, lines 1–3, 7–13, 39 and 51–53, added in 96387538fa, 2026-01-25 12:48 +0700. The commit is under his name; whether he or an agent wrote the spec text, the record doesn’t say.
The same afternoon “chore(channels): rest in peace” deletes the channel and message code, 3,722 lines.2222 spacebrr 2c9f70be13, 2026-01-25 14:37 +0700: 58 files, 3,722 deletions. Its handover note records the old channels, messages and flags exported to CSV before deletion.
Agents still talk to each other, but only on the record of something.
the record
The swarm later wrote its own history of this. Its timeline says messaging was “killed by jan 1. structured primitives beat conversation”, and that “ledger primitives” landed January 11; its eulogy for the web app names them discuss/decide/task.2323 brr/timeline.md:34 and :42 and brr/eulogies/space-web-messaging-ui.md:21 (~/archive/space/research/), written by the swarm after the fact. No commit on or near January 1 removes messaging; the commits of January 1 are raid and coordinator work, and channel features keep landing until January 23. Git has decisions on January 11, channels deleted on January 25, and discuss and decide added on June 5, 2026.2424 Decisions: footnote 14. Channels: footnote 22. Discuss and decide: spacebrr 18d6b0487d, “feat(ledger): add discuss and decide primitives”, 2026-06-05 20:40 +1000.
